Trip Fuel Cost & Petrol Mileage Calculator

Plan your travel budget and estimate fuel expenses accurately for weekend getaways, long road trips, or office commutes.

One-way or round-trip distance in kilometers.

Average fuel consumption of your car or bike (e.g. 15 km/l for petrol car, 45 km/l for motorcycle).

Current petrol or diesel rate in your city.

How it works

The calculator divides your trip distance by your vehicle's real-world fuel economy to compute total litres of petrol, diesel, or CNG required, and multiplies it by local fuel rates.

Formula

Fuel Needed = (Distance / Mileage), Total Cost = Fuel Needed × Price per Litre

Divides total journey distance by fuel economy to find litres needed, then multiplies by current fuel rate.

Worked example

350 km road trip in a 15 km/l car at ₹102/litre petrol

Distance:
350 km
Mileage:
15 km/l
Fuel Price:
₹102/l

Fuel Needed = 350 / 15 = 23.33 litres. Total Trip Cost = 23.33 × ₹102 = ₹2,380. Running cost is ₹6.80 per kilometer.

Limitations

Does not include toll plaza fees, highway parking charges, or vehicle depreciation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate real-world mileage of my vehicle?

Use the tank-to-tank method: Fill your fuel tank to auto-cut, reset the trip meter to 0, drive until half-tank, refill to full, and divide kilometers traveled on the trip meter by litres filled.

How can I improve my vehicle's fuel efficiency on highways?

Maintain optimal tyre pressure, use cruise control between 80-90 km/h, avoid rapid acceleration, and minimize roof luggage drag.

Does AC reduce car fuel mileage?

Yes, running the air conditioner continuously in city traffic can reduce fuel efficiency by 5% to 15%. On highways at high speeds, AC is often more aerodynamic than open windows.
